How It Works

The Emission Credits Exchange is very simple to use. Registered participants may place bids to buy or offers to sell to be posted or they may respond to bids and offers already posted. Information is conveyed to both parties via email. If, for example, a participant bids on a posted sell order, the seller will receive an email informing him or her that there is a buyer interested. This email will contain a link to a form on the site that can be used to respond to the bid. The seller may accept or reject the bid outright or make a counter offer. If the seller wishes to counter the bid, the buyer will receive an email with a link to respond to the counter offer. This process may continue until the buyer and seller reach an agreement or an impasse. If they do negotiate an agreement, an Emission Credits Exchange representative will contact both parties, complete any paperwork required, and file the trade with the appropriate agency.

There is no fee to post an order or to negotiate a trade. If a trade is finalized, the Emission Credits Exchange charges 3% of the transaction value (or a minimum of $200.00) to both parties -, which will be invoiced after the transaction is confirmed by the agency. For RECLAIM orders, both parties must also pay the South Coast Air Quality Management District fee and a document-handling fee. Other fees are generally the responsibility of the buyer unless otherwise agreed upon.

If you have any other questions about how the system works, please see our FAQ page or contact us directly.
